Dr. Fernando Macário has been the Chief Medical Officer at Diaverum since February 2019, having joined the company in 2001.
Throughout his tenure, Dr. Macário and his team have pioneered numerous innovative clinical strategy programmes, contributing to the development of Diaverum’s integrated dialysis care model - a cornerstone of our value-based renal care strategy.
With an M.D. in nephrology, Dr. Macário has extensive experience in renal medicine, encompassing both basic and clinical research. He served as the medical coordinator of the Kidney Transplant Unit at the University Hospital of Coimbra for a decade. Additionally, he was the president of the Portuguese Society of Transplantation (2009 - 2016), of which he is now an Honorary Member.
Dr. Macário has also served on the boards of several scientific societies, including the European Board of Transplantation, and acted as a consultant for the Portuguese Health Ministry.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and nephrology books, and has also served as a clinical trial investigator, scientific advisor, and organiser of international nephrology & transplantation conferences.
