Diaverum Plungė - Visit Plungė
Plungė is a mid-sized city in the north-west of Lithuania. In 2009 it was elected Lithuanian Capital of Culture being a lively and multifarious.
Capital of Culture 2009
Plungė has many facets: one of them is the architectural opulence of many buildings of the city. The estate of Oginskiai where now the Museum of Samogitian art is established, an imitation of a 14th century Vecchio palace in Florence and the church of St. John the Baptist are only some of them. Another important side of Plungė is its spirit of art. One of the first music schools of Lithuania was founded here and many famous Lithuanian artists were born in Plungė.
What is more, Plungė is surrounded by picturesque landscape shaped by green fields and small rivers and inviting visitors for a pleasant day trip.
