We are delighted to announce Diaverum Brazil's acquisition of UNTR clinic, located in Santana de Parnaíba in the São Paulo metropolitan region. This marks our second acquisition in São Paulo in less than a year, in addition to the opening of our clinic in Aracaju, Sergipe.
The new clinic currently operates 37 dialysis machines, serving approximately 180 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients under Brazil’s public healthcare system (Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS). Its core service is haemodialysis, complemented by comprehensive multidisciplinary care through specialist consultations, nutritional support, and social services – an integral part of Diaverum’s holistic, standardised and proprietary Care Delivery Model.
With the infrastructure already in place, the facility is equipped to scale its operations and treat up to 360 patients. The clinic also provides pre-dialysis care, delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising nephrologists, nutritionists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers. These existing capabilities offer a strong foundation for integration into Diaverum’s global clinical ecosystem, while enabling future enhancements such as expanded digital services and advanced therapies.
With this acquisition, Diaverum Brazil now operates 13 clinics, including a Vascular Access Centre, serving over 4,800 patients with the support of more than 1,400 healthcare professionals. This follows the recent opening of its Aracaju centre –at 2,700 m², one of the country’s largest dialysis centres. Taken together, these developments demonstrate Diaverum’s continued investment in expanding access, capacity, and quality of care for patients living with CKD.
According to the Brazilian Dialysis Survey 2023, as of 1 July 2023, there were an estimated 157,357 patients undergoing dialysis in Brazil. This data underscores the growing demand for dialysis services, particularly in densely populated regions like Greater São Paulo. The establishment of Diaverum’s new clinic directly addresses this rising need by expanding treatment capacity in a rapidly developing area, thereby enhancing access to life-enhancing renal care for patients in the region.
Additionally, the facility opens new opportunities for partnerships with health insurers, reinforcing Diaverum’s commitment to broadening access to high-quality renal treatments for patients of all profiles.
Rafael Romanini, Diaverum’s CEO, commented: “Since 2017, Diaverum has ambitiously expanded its footprint in Brazil, focusing on regions with growing populations and unmet medical needs. We are committed to enhancing the lives of people with chronic kidney disease, by offering world-class care, supported by our digital infrastructure and innovative solutions.
The integration of the UNTR clinic is not only a strategic milestone, but a reflection of our purpose: to make high-quality care accessible to more patients, where and when they need it most”.
Luciano Bonaldo, Country Manager for Diaverum Brazil, said: “The integration of the UNTR clinic into our portfolio marks an important step forward in advancing our long-term strategy in Greater São Paulo. This is a region where population growth and healthcare demand continue to rise – and where the need for reliable, high-quality renal care is critical. By strengthening our presence here, we are not only expanding access but also building meaningful partnerships with public and private stakeholders to serve patients across all care pathways”.
Paulo Cicogna, Medical Director for Diaverum Brazil, added: “Increasing capacity is only part of the equation – our true focus is on improving the quality and continuity of care for every patient. The UNTR clinic brings strong clinical foundations and a shared culture of patient-centred care, which we will enhance further through Diaverum’s standardised medical protocols, training programmes, and digital tools. This is another important step toward a more integrated and efficient renal care system in Brazil”.
