Our Swedish heritage goes back to professor Nils Alwall (1904-1986), nephrology chair at Lund University, and one of the founding fathers of dialysis. Nils collaborated with Swedish businessman Holger Crafoord to found Gambro, Inc. Over the past 35 years, Diaverum has become a global leader and the largest independent renal service provider in Europe.
1991
Gambro Healthcare opened its first dialysis clinic in Lund, Sweden. Global expansion followed as Gambro Healthcare International acquired and won tenders for new clinics worldwide.
2007
Gambro Healthcare clinics continued to expand globally and, by the end of 2007, operated 170 clinics in 14 countries, treating more than 14,000 patients. Driven by a new vision, the name Diaverum was adopted and launched worldwide.
2009
Diaverum entered Germany through the acquisition of seven clinics.
2011
Diaverum entered Saudi Arabia, Chile and Romania, expanding its network through new clinics and acquisitions.
2015
Diaverum entered the Asian market through the acquisition of Nefros Asia in Kazakhstan, with nine kidney centres across the country.
2018
The company entered Brazil and North Macedonia.
2019
Diaverum entered Albania and Morocco while strengthening its presence in the Middle East, expanding its network to 22 countries worldwide.
2020
Continuing its global expansion, Diaverum entered Singapore and Malaysia.
2021
Diaverum opened its new headquarters in Sweden and new clinics in Brazil, Chile, China, Morocco, Portugal and the UK. During the same year, the organisation launched a breakthrough AI model for vascular access thrombosis prediction.
2022
Diaverum continued its international expansion across Chile, Portugal, Morocco, the UK, China and France, while reinforcing its presence in Sweden. The company launched the d.HOLIDAY booking engine and held the first-ever Diaverum Awards Finalists’ Ceremony in Marrakech, which was live-streamed globally.
2023
Diaverum was acquired by M42 and continued its international expansion with new clinics in France, Italy, Romania, Singapore and Brazil. The company also launched its nursing talent development pilot scheme, the My Diaverum Experience patient feedback platform, and its first For Health Challenge.
2024
Diaverum entered Greece and continued its international expansion across Brazil, Spain, Morocco, the UK and Uruguay, while reinforcing its presence in Sweden. The company launched the d.HOLIDAY Fly Back Programme and hosted its inaugural Global Patient Experience Meeting in Madrid.
2025
Diaverum entered the UAE and continued its global expansion through new contracts and clinics in Spain, Brazil, Portugal, Chile, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia and the UK.
2026
Diaverum currently cares for approximately 47,000 patients through more than 460 clinics, supported by around 14,800 employees across 25 countries, continuing its mission to deliver digitally enabled, life-enhancing renal care worldwide.
