We are delighted to announce that Diaverum has expanded its operations in Germany, with the opening of a major new clinic in Hamburg, currently one of the largest dialysis centres in the country.
The new clinic will provide care to more than 350 patients who were previously treated at Diaverum’s Alter Teichweg and Wandsbek clinics, both of which have now permanently closed.
Located on Am Stadtrand in Hamburg’s Wandsbek district, the most populous district of Hamburg with over 420,000 residents, the facility features state-of-the-art medical technology and modern infrastructure. It includes four dialysis areas with a total of 92 dialysis machines, making it one of the largest dialysis centres in Germany.
According to the Hamburg City Health Study, chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects approximately 1 in 9 adults in Hamburg, particularly among middle-to-older age groups. This makes CKD a significant public health concern, with prevalence rising due to population ageing and improved detection. By incorporating Diaverum’s proprietary care model and digital innovations, the new centre is well positioned to deliver superior medical outcomes and patient safety, while expanding access to life-enhancing renal care in a city with a high CKD prevalence.
Patients will have access to a comprehensive range of services, including haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home haemodialysis and apheresis, as well as nutritional counselling to support long-term health management.
The clinic employs a dedicated team of more than 100 healthcare professionals who will deliver high-quality renal care to patients, combining clinical expertise with Diaverum’s True care culture. The improved space and infrastructure will also enable more efficient interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare teams, supporting an integrated care model that reflects Diaverum’s holistic approach to renal health and patient well-being.
In addition, the outpatient practice at the new clinic will treat patients with other kidney-related conditions, supporting early intervention and providing pre-dialysis care designed to delay disease progression & reduce the need for dialysis.
Easily accessible by public transport, the facility has been designed to provide a pleasant and comfortable environment for patients, with bright, modern and spacious treatment rooms. As part of Diaverum’s d.HOLIDAY programme, it will also welcome dialysis patients visiting Hamburg.
Frank Gotsmann, Country Managing Director for Diaverum Germany, said: “We are proud to expand our presence in Hamburg with this new clinic, which reflects our commitment to delivering life-enhancing renal care to more patients in the region. Located in the city’s most populous district, the centre will help meet the growing demand for specialised kidney care while enabling more patients to access the treatment they need to lead fulfilling lives”.
Zisis Sotiriou, Vice President of Diaverum’s International Cluster, added: “At Diaverum, we are committed to delivering the highest quality of care in every country in which we operate. The opening of this new state-of-the-art clinic marks an important step in our global strategy to expand access to world-class renal care. Through our integrated, digitally supported care model, we aim to improve patient outcomes and quality of life while continuously raising the standards of renal care”.
With the opening of this clinic, Diaverum Germany now operates two medical care centres in Hamburg: Diaverum Nierenzentrum Hamburg Wandsbek and Diaverum Schlankreye.
