On 9 February, Diaverum Portugal officially opened the doors to its new clinic in Almada, welcoming patients into a larger, modern facility designed to enhance both patient comfort and quality of care. The new clinic replaces the previous Almada unit and becomes one of the 28 clinics currently operated by Diaverum Portugal.
Located southwest of Lisbon within the Metropolitan Area, Almada is one of Portugal’s most populous and dynamic municipalities, serving as a major residential, industrial and commuter hub. The new clinic is strategically positioned to meet the growing demand for high-quality renal care in this densely populated region, expanding access for local communities.
Significantly larger than the previous site, the new Almada clinic features 41 fully equipped dialysis stations. A team of 70 dedicated professionals currently provides care to approximately 200 patients, with capacity to serve up to 246. In Portugal, chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains a significant public health challenge, affecting an estimated 9.8% of the adult population, while early detection rates remain limited. By investing in expanded facilities, Diaverum Portugal is strengthening its ability to meet the country’s increasing need for specialised renal care.
The clinic will continue to provide haemodialysis treatment alongside coordinated, holistic and multidisciplinary care, underpinned by a patient-centred model that ensures individualised, comprehensive support. Patients will have access to specialist consultations, nutritional support, pharmacy services and social services. To enhance comfort during treatment, the clinic also offers amenities including Wi-Fi, individual televisions and light meals.
Sofia Correia de Barros, Country Manager for Diaverum Portugal, commented: “Diaverum Portugal is committed to exemplifying our organisation’s True care culture and values. Our continued investment in clinic infrastructure reflects this commitment and our ambition to deliver excellence in everything we do.”
“Driven by the belief that ‘good enough is not good enough’, we are proud to continue providing life-enhancing renal care to patients in Almada, supported by Diaverum’s world-class clinical and medical standards. My sincere congratulations to everyone who contributed to making this new space a reality for our patients and teams.”
Rafael Romanini, Diaverum CEO and COO for Europe and LATAM, added: “This new clinic represents Diaverum’s ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality, life-enhancing care in every community we serve. Through this investment, we are expanding access to world-class renal care for both local and travelling patients, supported by our strong digital infrastructure and innovative solutions.”
