We are pleased to share that Diaverum has been recognised at Encontro Renal 2025 - the annual nephrology congress organised by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Nefrologia (Portuguese Society of Nephrology - SPN) - a public utility institution dedicated to advancing scientific activity in the field of nephrology since 1978.

Held late last year in  Estoril, Portugal, Encontro Renal brings together nephrology professionals from the Portuguese, Iberian and wider European communities to share scientific progress, debate advances in clinical practice, and contribute to improved care for people living with chronic kidney disease.

The oral communication “Fistula or catheter in the elderly? Vascular access and outcomes in patients over 75 years old starting haemodialysis”, authored by Eliana Silva, Health Science Analyst, received the Best Abstract in the Haemodialysis Field (Prémio Melhor Abstract  - Área de Hemodiálise 2025) award.

The abstract addresses vascular access decision-making and outcomes in elderly patients starting haemodialysis -  a clinically complex and increasingly relevant patient population. The recognition reflects the quality of the data, the robustness of the analysis, and the collaborative effort behind the work.

Commenting on the recognition, Dr Carla Santos, Corporate Medical Vice President, said: “Receiving this award at Encontro Renal reflects the strength of the data and the importance of focusing on outcomes that truly matter for elderly patients. It reinforces the value of evidence-based decision-making in everyday clinical practice.”

Eliana added: “Presenting this work at Encontro Renal and receiving this recognition was an important validation of the collaborative approach behind the project. It highlights how clinical insight and data-driven analysis can come together to inform better care.”

This recognition reinforces Diaverum’s ongoing contribution to clinical research and knowledge-sharing, and the role our teams play in advancing evidence-based care across the network.
