We are delighted to announce the expansion of the d.HOLIDAY Fly Back Programme, now serving five additional regions – the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia – as well as the standalone countries of Kazakhstan and China.

The expansion was introduced at this year’s Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh – a global platform showcasing innovations shaping the future of healthcare – underscoring the programme’s broader reach and international relevance.

Launched in June 2024, the d.HOLIDAY Fly Back Programme was created to facilitate and fund safe, fast returns home for holiday dialysis patients who receive a long-awaited kidney transplant call while travelling. Its purpose is simple yet vital: to help patients reach their transplant hospital as quickly as possible once a suitable organ becomes available.

On behalf of the patient, the programme arranges the fastest travel route – whether by flight, train, or bus – from their holiday destination back home, covering the associated costs. Our partnership with the global leading holiday dialysis booking engine, bookdialysis.com, ensures the quality, responsiveness, and speed of the service. The programme is available not only to Diaverum patients, but also to non-Diaverum patients who book their holiday dialysis at a Diaverum clinic via d.HOLIDAY.

At the time of launch, the programme catered to patients travelling within Europe, with a view to expanding its reach over time. A year later, it now gives even more eligible kidney transplant patients the freedom to travel with confidence and peace of mind. This milestone reflects Diaverum’s ongoing commitment to enabling patients to live fulfilling, unrestricted lives.

The d.HOLIDAY Fly Back Programme also forms part of our ongoing dedication towards the advancement of transplantation as a viable option for all eligible patients. Unlike other treatments that manage symptoms or slow disease progression, transplantation offers the possibility of restoring kidney function to near-normal levels, offering eligible patients the opportunity to reclaim their lives from the constraints that come with living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which is why Diaverum considers access to transplantation a quality indicator of its patient-centric CKD 5 care.

Michaela Blomstrand, Global Director of Patient Experience & Stakeholder Management, commented on the news: “I am incredibly proud of what the d.HOLIDAY Fly Back Programme has become and what this expansion represents – giving even more eligible kidney transplant patients freedom of movement. Travel is such a fundamental part of life, whether you’re exploring new places or reconnecting with loved ones across borders, which is what makes this programme so important. Being on a transplant waiting list means being on call 24/7, so knowing we can give a greater number of patients the chance to travel with peace of mind is something I’m truly proud of.”

Ziyad Kabli, Chief Operating Officer, Diaverum Middle East & Asia, added: “The expansion of the d.HOLIDAY Fly Back Programme represents an important milestone in our mission to enable patients to live fulfilling lives. The Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was the ideal platform to share this achievement and reaffirm Diaverum’s ongoing commitment to shaping the future of healthcare.”
