Diaverum was an official campaign partner of World Kidney Day once again, an annual global initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of kidney health and reducing the frequency & impact of kidney disease. A range of activities was organised across our locations in March to support the campaign.
World Kidney Day, celebrated this year on 12 March, marked a major milestone -20 years of global awareness, advocacy and action for kidney health. This year’s theme, ‘Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet’, highlighted the vital link between kidney care and environmental sustainability, and its implications for public health worldwide.
Our Corporate team in Hyllie, Malmö - Diaverum’s home city - led the way by organising an employee event promoting healthy lifestyles and well-being. Activities included an educational session on the “8 Golden Rules of Kidney Health”, followed by a kidney disease awareness quiz, a healthy lunch, and onsite blood pressure checks, highlighting the link between hypertension and kidney disease.
At the same time, teams across our 25 locations organised a variety of activities to raise awareness about kidney health among patients and communities, while also amplifying the campaign through social media channels. Together, these initiatives reached thousands of patients and members of the public, reinforcing the importance of prevention and early detection.
Here’s how some of them marked World Kidney Day:
- Brazil: All Diaverum clinics promoted local awareness activities focused on educating patients and their families on kidney health & prevention. In partnership with public health stakeholders and universities, public events were organised in central areas, including free kidney disease screenings.
- France: Multiple clinics organised awareness and screening activities, often in collaboration with a local patient association. These included information booths and free consultations by nephrologists.
- Germany: An open house event was organised for patients and the public at one of the Hamburg clinics, with around 70 participants. Activities included discussions and a lively Q&A session about kidney health.
- Hungary: Clinics organised educational activities for students, including workshops for healthcare trainees and sessions in schools focused on kidney health. The corporate team and senior medical staff also took part in a cooking class to learn how to prepare kidney-friendly meals.
- Italy: Educational activities were held in high schools, public spaces, and clinics, including free kidney disease screenings.
- Lithuania: Patients were given Diaverum and WKD-branded candles as a symbolic gesture to brighten their daily lives.
- Morocco: A free public open day and a week-long initiative offered kidney health screenings, check-ups, and medical consultations, promoting awareness and early detection.
- North Macedonia: Teams organised a wide range of awareness and community engagement activities, including educational sessions for students and older adults, free screenings, and symbolic actions like tree planting.
- Poland: Diaverum participated in a World Kidney Day conference in Warsaw, with three speakers, a promotional stand, and around 50 employees - primarily Medical Directors and Managing Nurses - attending to enhance their nephrology expertise.
- Portugal: Blood glucose and blood pressure screenings were conducted to support early detection, alongside CKD prevention activities in schools and an informative article in a local newspaper.
- Romania: A screening campaign was carried out in nephrology outpatient clinics, complemented by in-clinic staff engagement through campaign materials.
- Singapore: Clinics marked the day with small celebrations, bringing together patients and staff through renal-friendly refreshments and interactive activities. A video on the “8 Golden Rules for kidney health” was also produced to support awareness.
- Spain: Activities included sponsorship of a race and clinic-led initiatives such as celebrations and participation in conferences with patient associations.
