World Kidney Day 2026 marks a major milestone – 20 years of global awareness, advocacy and action for kidney health. This year’s theme, ‘Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet’, strongly reflects Diaverum’s commitment to life-enhancing renal care with sustainability at our core.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) often develops silently and may go undetected until it leads to serious health consequences, including cardiovascular complications, reduced quality of life, and kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplantation. It disproportionately affects disadvantaged populations, worsening existing health inequities.

Early detection through simple, low-cost blood and urine tests can identify kidney dysfunction and enable timely treatment to slow progression - especially in high-risk groups such as people with diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, obesity, or a family history of kidney disease.

Moreover, environmental factors, including air pollution, heat stress, dehydration, and extreme weather events, are increasing CKD risk and accelerating its progression. At the same time, dialysis is resource-intensive and carbon-heavy, creating a feedback loop between kidney disease and climate change.

In response, the World Health Organization adopted its first-ever resolution on kidney disease at the 78th World Health Assembly, recognising it as a global public health priority and calling for action on prevention, awareness, equitable treatment access, and environmental risk reduction.

At Diaverum, we actively promote preventive care and patient education as part of our holistic approach to renal care and our True care culture, with the goal of empowering patients to live fulfilling lives.

In addition, environmental sustainability is increasingly shaping our strategy, decisions, and culture, ensuring we serve not only our patients but also the communities and planet we all depend on.

We strongly believe that responsible, sustainable healthcare is not only possible - but essential. For this reason, we proudly support World Kidney Day as an official partner for another year running.
