Dr Domingos Machado is a long-time colleague whose involvement with Diaverum spans across more than two decades, beginning with his role as Medical Director for one of our clinics in Lisbon in 2007. In recent years, he has been responsible for organising Diaverum Portugal's continuous education programme for doctors and nurses, and is also President of Diaverum's Portuguese Ethics Committee. Prior to this, Dr Machado spent many years developing a highly successful career, having first qualified as a doctor in 1975. He has also held a number of high-profile positions, including the role of President for the Portuguese Transplantation Society (Sociedade Portuguesa Transplantação - SPT). More recently, Domingos displayed last year an extraordinary act of self-sacrifice and altruism by becoming the first non-directed kidney donor to an unknown CKD patient in Portugal.
